Welcome to Tywi Valley Open Studios ...........

Textiles
I design and make unique handbags using Welsh tweed from my small studio in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains surrounded by the glorious Welsh landscape.
Pure wool Welsh tweed is a wonderful fabric; it is a sustainable material which is naturally water and stain resistant and hard-wearing. I collect vintage Welsh tweed as skirt lengths and unwanted clothing, drawn to their colours, textures and history and give the fabrics a new lease of life by up-cycling them to create one-of-a-kind handbags. I use the offcuts to make small gifts and cards. Working with wool brings me closer to my beautiful surroundings and its agricultural heritage.
I aim to create in a sustainable way; I source local produce where possible, i.e. lavender grown near Swansea, Welsh wood buttons and bag handles carved in mid-Wales. My studio is powered by renewable electricity. Visitors to the studio will be able to explore the processes of turning raw fleece into yarn and then fabric.
